Week of August 31st (12:00am) – September 6th (11:59pm)

Please review the Participation page on Blackboard for specific instructions on how/when posts are due. Also, please review the Schedule page for scheduling details.

As a reminder, the schedule for this week is as follows:

*Participate in week 2 discussion

*Review ALL course assignments located on the Handouts page

Participation for this week is:

Answer one in each of your three posts, at least 24 hours apart:

*Think of a speaker you admire. Does his or her power to persuade come from ethos, pathos, or logos? Think about your own ability to persuade others. What personal qualities do you have that make you persuasive? Does Aristotle’s classification scheme work for them, or do they fit into another category?

*The Greeks believed that to be an orator, an individual had to be morally good. Comment on whether you agree or disagree. What, if any, is the connection between goodness, truth, and public communication?

*Pick one concept from the assigned reading that you found useful or interesting and discuss it.

*Remember to post 2 responses to your colleagues blogs at least 24 hours apart.

Chapter 1 Question from a colleague

Cherry posed a good question during her reading today. Thank you Cherry for giving the class this question:

"Who are the Sophists' modern counterparts? Does modern mean today? or Modern Period described in our text?"

What do you do think?

Logging Into Blackboard

It is approximately 8pm on Friday night (yes, I know I'm a nerd for working on a Friday night, no need to remind me), and I JUST now received word about logging in to your new class. Here is the information I was given:

Student Access

Most students will be added to their BlackBoard CE8 course shells on Saturday, August 23rd, but they will not have access to the course until Monday, August 25th at 12:01 a.m.

Technical Support for Students

For students who have technical problems using BlackBoard CE8 (eg. unable to log in, need password re-set, etc.), please refer them to San Jose State University's Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) at 408-924-2377, or email at helpdesk@sjsu.edu ITSS is located on the first floor of the Academic Success Center in Clark Hall, so students can speak with someone in-person if they so desire.

As some of you have already found out, this would have been helpful the last two days, considering I have received emails from about 10 of you so far (nice to meet those of you that have emailed me already, y'all rock!!!). My apologies for not having this information sooner.

I will update my blog again on Saturday night/ Sunday morning with all that needs to be done to get started in the class. I am excited to get to know all of you.

:)
